Cancer developing in cells of the thyroid gland is called thyroid cancer. There are four types of thyroid cancer. Risk factors include genetic and environmental factors.
Symptoms
The most common symptom is a lump in front of the neck. Other includes pain, difficulty in speech, difficulty in swallowing, or change in voice.
Diagnosis
The first test done for suspected thyroid cancer is an ultrasound. Next biopsy from the suspicious area is done and studied under a microscope to diagnose thyroid cancer.
Treatment
Surgery is the main modality of treatment. Radioactive iodine may be given after surgery to reduce the chances of recurrence. In late cases, radiation and chemotherapy are used to control disease.
