Oral Cancer
Mouth cancer is one of the most common causes of death in India. In India, oral cancer accounts for about 30% of all types of cancer
Risk Factors
One of the biggest risk factors for oral cancer is tobacco use. This includes smoking cigarettes, cigars, and pipes, as well as chewing tobacco.
Signs and Symptoms
The most common presentation is irregular, raised ulcers that do not heal. It can also be associated with difficulty in chewing, swallowing, speaking, or moving of tongue.
Diagnosis
First, a biopsy will be performed from growths or suspicious ulcers. Also, imaging (CT scan/MRI scan) will be done to determine the extent or stage of the cancer.
Treatment
Treatment includes surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. In Surgery tumor with surrounding tissue and cancerous lymph nodes are removed.
Prevention
All forms of tobacco, including cigarettes, pipes, cigars, and chewing (smokeless) tobacco, need to be stopped completely. Stop drinking alcohol. Eat plenty of natural foods, including more fruits and vegetables, eating a healthy diet, and exercising may help in preventing oral cancers.
